For our hour of code week, Casey and I have chosen to do Spheros. I chose this category, or object you could say, because it is simple and easy and I think lots of kids who are not as interested in technology based objects will enjoy this station the most. Casey missed when we did this unit so I will start by teacher her how to use the app and let her explore amongst it and then I will show her how to code the start and stop time, the degree of the angle to turn whichever way she desires, and how to make it make a noise or possibly change colors within the light in the back of the Sphero. Coding a Sphero includes them downloading the app dedicated to Sphero, or they can use my iPad, and I will at first show them how to remote control it, but I will likely not allow them to use that feature unless they’re trustworthy because it can get out of hand and we don’t want them damaging them. I will then show them how to code the Sphero to make a square, and then they can explore with whatever shape they desire. Whoever has the coolest shape will “win,” the competition or maybe even a prize or piece of candy? I feel as if we include prizes, kids will be more interested in actually learning the basic yet important information behind spheros and how they work because they get rewarded at the end of it.

This week we were exploring GarageBand. I have used this app many times before but I never got too into depth with the app. I always used to mess around on the instruments, but I never made a song or looked for specific beats to play together, or at the same time. Mr. Wong showed us how to go into a pre-made song's beats, and you can pick and choose when to play certain beats. You can then record it and it will stay playing and you can add more beats and layer them as you continue to play, record, and then save the beat. I found this gesture very fascinating. I am not much of a musical person so I had no idea how to truly use GarageBand and now that I know how to use it I will be using it more and continue to explore it and learn more about it.
This week in help desk we have been coding a game on the app Play Maker. Through this app we start from a blank screen, to a game you are able to play. I find this very cool because this game acts as if it were a game you would download off the App Store. Last week we were using drones. We started with smaller drones and programmed them to fly at a certain speed, for a specific amount of time, and tell them to do a flip or to turn right or left. Towards the end of the week we moved to larger drones. We took these drones outside, flew them about 50-100 feet in the air, and took some pictures and videos. The graphics on these drones were amazing. It was very good quality and it was funny to see ourselves as the camera took off and landed.
